Land measurement has traditionally been a time-consuming process involving manual calculations, physical surveys, and specialized equipment. For many property owners, land brokers, surveyors, and local users, obtaining accurate land measurements can be both costly and incredibly inconvenient.
The Challenge: To provide an affordable and highly accessible method for measuring land without requiring expensive surveying equipment or advanced technical expertise from the user.
To address this challenge, I designed and developed Jomi Mapa, a GPS-powered digital land measurement application that enables users to accurately measure land boundaries directly from their smartphones.
The application integrates interactive mapping technology, live GPS positioning, and advanced polygon-based area calculations. Users can actively choose between walking along the boundary of a property with their phone (Walk-to-Measure) or manually placing pin-points on the satellite map to create land parcels and compute their dimensions instantly.
Special attention was given to local usability. The interface was intentionally designed in a local-language-friendly format to radically improve accessibility for users in rural and semi-urban areas of Assam who may lack technical backgrounds.
Created a practical, powerful geospatial solution that drastically simplifies land measurement. The app improves accessibility to vital surveying tools and effectively demonstrates the sheer potential of GIS technology in solving real-world property management challenges.
